The National Down Syndrome Society is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2008 Charles J. Epstein Down Syndrome Research Award Program. The NDSS Scientific Advisory Board rigorously reviewed the applications and identified five outstanding applications to fund. Nearly $175,000 was awarded to these five researchers. NDSS is excited to exhibit continued commitment to Down syndrome research and improving the lives of people with Down syndrome through funding studies such as these that have a lot of potential to impact the lives of our constituents.The 2008 recipients are:Kimberly Beret Bjugstad, Ph.D., University of Colorado Denver, Aurora, CO

“Neurodevelopmental Outcome in Children with Down Syndrome and Congenital Heart Disease”Scientific and Lay abstracts of each study will be available shortly on the NDSS webpage at: http://www1.ndss.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1811&Itemid=94.  Please contact Erin Geller at egeller@ndss.org with any questions about the Epstein Award Program or this year's recipients.Joshua O'Neill and Zeshan Tabani Enrichment Fund Deadline Reminder- July 18, 2008The mission of the Joshua O’Neill and Zeshan Tabani Enrichment Fund is to offer financial assistance to young adults with Down syndrome who wish to continue to enrich their lives by enrolling in postsecondary programs or taking enrichment classes that will help them to enrich life through employment, independent living skills, life skills or another way.  This program is entering its fourth year and has so far awarded enrichment funds to nearly 20 young adults!  NDSS is proud to continue to facilitate and administer this grant that benefits young adults with Down syndrome to pursue postsecondary education and enrichment classes.The application is available for download on the NDSS website at: http://www1.ndss.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1973&Itemid=236.  The deadline for applications is July 18, 2008.  Please share this information on your webpage, in your newsletter, and with your friends, family, constituents, and all who you think would be interested in this program- help us to get the word out!  Thank you!Please contact Erin Geller at egeller@ndss.org with any questions or feedback you may have about the program
